The Broome Maritime Simulation Centre

Broome Maritime Simulation Centre

The Broome Maritime Simulator Centre is based at Kimberley Training Institute's head office in Broome, Australia. The Centre specialises in state-of-the-art maritime simulation services for the new and existing ports. Providing services for the research and design phases of new port development through to the operational procedures for existing port operators, the BMSC has carried out numerous projects for Australian and international clients over the past four years.

The facility runs a Transas NTPRO 5000 simulator which is an International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Class A compliant system, certified by Det Norske Veritas (DNV). The Transas system raises the standard if the BMSC to a world class simulator centre, which was already being used widely by industry clients including BHP Billiton, Chevron, KBR, SKM, Worley Parsons and various Port Authorities. The centre has completed studies for international clients and has further inquiries from overseas companies to complete their training in Broome.

The system has the flexibility to enable the quick turnaround of changes to area databases, the ability to model particular ships in-house, saving costs and time. This enables the simulator to be used effectively and efficiently for new port developments during their the design phase to validate from a maritime perspective the engineered designs.
