Sacred Heart School, Beagle Bay 1st - 2nd September 2009

In order to gain practical experience by trouble shooting computer issues on a working network, 4 students travelled with their lecturer to Beagle Bay to help the Sacred Heart School resolve outstanding computer issues. This experience involed students installing networked printers, installing software, configuring networked computers, and solving issues including faulty hard drives, sound cards and networking connectivity issues.

Sacred Heart School do not have a dedicated IT person, however one of their teachers, Dave Wilkinson, provides any IT support required by staff and students. During our trip the students created instruction manuals of how they resolved the IT issues. These were left for Dave to help him resolve future IT problems.

Sacred Heart School also required a backup system for their server. One was implemented on two new Terebyte external hard drives.

We would like to thank John Rose, Sacred Heart's Principal, for taking up our offer of technical help and providing our group with fantastic accommodation. We would also like to thank all those at Sacred Heart School for making us all feel so welcome.

Students comments:

"It was a fantastic opportunity to put some practise into a working IT environment"

"Picked up lots of new skills and short cuts which will improve my confidence"

"Came away feeling really positive"

"Applied what we had learnt in class and used it in a practical setting"
