Certificate II (14 units = 6 core units + 8 elective units) Prerequisite: Operate a personal computer (ICAU1128A) Certificate II starts you on the road to a career in Information Technology. You will learn how to use Applications like MSWord and MSAccess to provide business solutions. You will also be introduced to the internal and external workings of computer hardware. The course furthe covers Occupational and safety issues when using computer technology and ensures you are confident working in a workplace. Completion of the Cert II can give you career opportunities in the following areas: computer technician, Level 1 computer support. Certificate III Prerequisites: 8 Cert II Core units (see above)
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in introductory ICT ‘technical’ functions and is designed to support information technology activities in the workplace and to achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT ‘user’. This will give employers a degree of confidence in an individual’s usefulness in the workplace as it has a strong suite of 6 common core ICT units and 3 specialists’ streams with direct relevance to IT workplace roles. Certificate IV Pre requisites: As a minimum, completion of the common core units in the ICA30105 Certificate III in Information Technology is required. The common core units contain the basic fundamental ICT knowledge and skills for all the qualifications at Certificate IV and above. Also, a number of units within each qualification have prerequisites. If you want to take a leading job role in an Information and Communications Technology workplace, then gaining one of these qualifications will enhance your career prospects. Support In the Help Desk Stream, you will develop skills and knowledge to undertake technical, client or product support and help desk activities that require a high level of ICT technical expertise. You will be able to define, diagnose and rectify user’s needs and problems related to the use of hardware and software. By choosing network oriented electives, you can develop specialist skills to support a networked environment. Networking This qualification develops your skills and knowledge in the installation and management of simple networks and provides for you to play a significant role in network management either as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team. Multimedia This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in designing, developing and utilizing basic multimedia briefs either as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team. The qualification has a small suite of core units with the opportunity for inclusion of 70 per cent of the qualification as electives, thus providing exceptional flexibility for individuals and enterprises.
Basic windows and internet skills (including email)A great course for beginners who want to become more confident in using their computer and the internet. The course runs over a 9 week term. Classes are 3 hours a week. Courses are run both during the day and in the evening. Please check the timetable for this term's schedule. This course includes the following two units: Operate a personal computer (ICAU1128B)Learn how to start a computer, navigate in the Windows operating system, customise the desktop environment, set up and organise folders and files, create, save and print files, use other software and shutdown a computer. Use Internet and email (ICAU1133B)Send & retrieve information over the internet using browsers and email. Access web sites, use search engines, send & receive emails with attachments. D0361 ICPMM321B Capture a digital image This course is aimed at home users who have purchased technology (eg digital cameras, digital video camera or mobile phone/iPod) and need help understanding how it works. The course also shows users how to take their digital media and convert their digital movies into DVDs and /or photos into digital albums. All students are invited to bring their gadgets to class to both learn and share knowledge. This class will be run on Monday nights, 5pm- 8pm. Web Design (using Adobe Dreamweaver CS3) Produce and Manipulate Digital Images (using Adobe Photoshop CS3) Design a Multimedia Product (using Adobe Flash CS3) Build a Relational Database and Use Structured Query Language (using MSAccess) ICAU3028B CUSTOMIZE PACKAGED SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS Overview This foundation course in Computer Aided Drafting using AutoCAD 2008 provides an understanding of the fundamentals of CAD for design and drafting in architecture, engineering, interior design, etc. Content
